Returning for a second year, Grand Prairie will host free outdoor ice skating through Dec. 26 in front of City Hall, 300 W. Main St., one of an array of festive options from a robust menu of Grand Prairie holiday happenings through the end of the year.
The skate rink will offer free skate rentals, holiday music, a selfie photo station, the City of Grand Prairie Christmas tree and food and gift vendors, as well as walkable proximity to downtown shopping, dining and entertainment.
“Grand Prairie’s ‘big city’ amenities continue to grow, yet we are committed to preserving the nostalgic, small-town charm that defines our community," said Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen. “We invite both residents and visitors to experience our outdoor ice skating rink and array of seasonal happenings, which are first class and provide a cozy and family-friendly feeling unique to our city.”
The ice rink will be open 4-9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon-9 p.m. Saturday and noon-8 p.m. Sunday.
Reservations aren't required, but each skating session is limited to 30 minutes and 30 skaters. The last skating session of the day begins 30 minutes before closing. Closed on Christmas Day.
Vendors offering paid concessions will be available on-site. Admission to the skating rink, skate rentals and parking are all free. Limited availability for skates for ages 6 and younger. Consider wearing or bringing thick socks. Wear layers on colder days. Parking is available at City Hall and in all City of Grand Prairie lots around downtown.
