A Saturday evening crash in Mansfield claimed the life of a man and sent a child to the hospital.
The Mansfield Police Department responded to a major crash at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in the 1700 block of U.S. 287 Frontage Road involving a pickup.
When officers arrived, they noticed the truck had left the roadway and struck a building, driving partially inside the structure.
Investigators believe that a man lost control while operating the vehicle on the service road before driving over the curb and striking the building on the east side of the
roadway. Officers saw fire coming from underneath the vehicle and noticed there were still two occupants inside the truck.
The Mansfield Fire Department extinguished the blaze and both occupants were removed from the vehicle.
Both occupants were transported to local hospitals. Unfortunately, an adult man was pronounced deceased at a later time at one of the hospitals. The other occupant, a child, is expected to survive.
Based upon the information gathered at the scene, investigators believe the cause could possibly be a medical episode. The crash remains under investigation. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
