Mansfield ISD trustees approve new district zoning

On Aug. 22, the Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees approved changes to the district’s attendance zones. The recommended changes followed six months of study and feedback from members of the Growth and Attendance Zones Committee. The board also considered public input from a community meeting in June regarding the district’s projected growth, building capacities, building utilization and attendance zones.  

The zoning changes will not take effect until the 2025-2026 school year. The approved changes include:

-- D.P. Morris Elementary School students will attend Cross Timbers Intermediate School then Howard Middle School (currently students are zoned for Asa Low Intermediate School and Wester Middle School). D.P. Morris students will still attend Summit High School.  

-- Martha Reid Leadership Academy students will attend Asa Low Intermediate School then Wester Middle School (currently students are zoned for Mary Orr Intermediate School and Worley Middle School). Martha Reid students will still attend Mansfield High School.  

-- Annette Perry Elementary School students will attend Mary Orr Intermediate School then Worley Middle School, or Donna Shepard Leadership Academy then Jobe Middle School (currently students advance to Alma Martinez Intermediate then McKinzey Middle School, Mary Orr Intermediate School then Worley Middle School, or Donna Shepard Leadership Academy then Linda Jobe Middle School). Annette Perry students will attend Mansfield High School or Lake Ridge High School.

-- Roberta Tipps STEAM Academy students will continue to attend Asa Low Intermediate School then Wester Middle School. Roberta Tipps students will now attend Summit High School (currently students are zoned for Mansfield High School).  

To reduce the impact of zoning changes on students, the district is making a series of accommodations allowing students to either remain at a campus or to move early to a new campus. Students who will be juniors and seniors when the rezoning takes effect may stay at their current campus, as well as any sibling who is going to be a ninth- or 10th-grader. Sixth- and eighth-grade students may also stay at the same current campus, as well as any sibling who is going to be in the corresponding fifth or seventh grade, respectively. Additionally, students who are rezoned can move early to their new campus in the 2024-2025 school year. More details regarding options and early moves will be finalized and shared later this year.
