The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office reports that 53-year-old Thomas Boykin of Mansfield has pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon causing Serious Bodily Injury. A jury has sentenced him to life in prison.

On May 16, 2023, Boykin shot his 13-year-old son while the boy was asleep in his bed and his 21-year-old stepdaughter as she pleaded for him not to shoot. Boykin also physically assaulted his wife. The son sustained three gunshot wounds, while the stepdaughter was hit twice. Both victims underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries.

"I thought I was gonna die," said Boykin's son when recalling the night of the shooting. "After what he did to me, I can't imagine ever missing him."

The Mansfield Police Department conducted the investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Allenna Bangs and Chris Dewitt.

Boykin was an eighth-grade science teacher at Linda Jobe Middle School.
