Mansfield water quality gets highest rating

The Mansfield Water Utilities Department received the Outstanding Public Drinking Water System award by the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality.

City Council recognized Mansfield Water Utilities at its Oct. 10 meeting for the honor. This award recognizes overall excellence in all aspects of operating a public water system. The city’s water utility has previously received “superior” recognition but this is the first time Mansfield has received the TCEQ’s highest honor.

“I know for most of us as long as we have clean running water we’re happy,” said Larry Broseh, Mansfield City Council member and city representative to the Tarrant Regional Water District advisory board. “But this award gives residents another reason to be proud of their water and know the people taking care of their water infrastructure are the best in Texas.”

Mansfield Water Utilities is just one of three public water systems to receive this award out of 7,000 in Texas.

To obtain the award, Mansfield went above and beyond in protecting public health and ensuring reliable operation, including exceeding water capacity requirements for production, total water storage, service pump capacity, and pressure maintenance; year-round water conservation public education; and having a source water protection plan.

“The Water Utilities staff is dedicated to providing outstanding drinking water for our residents, while working in the heat, cold and freezing weather, and coming in day or night,” said Alex Whiteway, Assistant Water Utilities Director. “Our staff members are truly passionate about what they do.”

This award was achieved with the continued support of city management and council members, and the dedication and selflessness of field operations, meter reading, inspections, utility billing customer service, public education, and the Bud Ervin Water Treatment Plant staff.

"This achievement is made possible by the hard work and dedication of the women and men in Mansfield's Water Utilities department," said Mansfield City Manager Joe Smolinski. "I am proud - beyond words - to work alongside the professionals that dedicate themselves to providing the noteworthy essential services Mansfield is known for."

The Texas Public Drinking Water Recognition Program recognizes the effort, dedication, and contribution public water supplies make to the state and to protect public health of all citizens. The program is extended to all water supply systems in the state of Texas, and each year, they are recognized for their outstanding performance for the preceding calendar year.
