Kenneth Allen Schouwburg, 66, of Griffin, Ga., and Mansfield, Texas, died peacefully in his sleep Oct. 16, 2026, with family members by his side at City of Hope Cancer Center Atlanta (Newnan). He succumbed to cancer after a brave year-long battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma.

Ken was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Mich., graduating Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1978. Following graduation, Ken eventually moved to Seattle, Wash., for a a decade before moving to Little Rock, Ark., to be near his sister.

It was while in Little Rock that Ken joined the Disaster Assistance Employee (DAE) cadre for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). During his 20 years as a FEMA Reservist, Ken never refused a deployment, a record unique among his logistics peers. He also made dozens of friends throughout the country.

Ken was one of those larger-than-life characters you hear about and wonder if the story is true. With Ken, it was, and so much more. “Mr. Chips” will be remembered for his open and kind heart, his unwavering assistance to those in need, his love for casinos and his life-long commitment to family and friends.

One of four siblings raised by John Schouwburg and Margot Sattler Schouwburg, he is survived by: older brother, John “Johnny” Schouwburg of Portage, Mich.;  sister, Ann Alvey and her husband Robert Alvey, of Griffin, Ga.; sister, Verena Dibble of Portage, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life date remains pending but will include online attendance.

In lieu of flowers, his siblings ask that you donate to either Support Ken’s Fight Against Lymphoma GoFundMe site or the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
