Mansfield Record
Mansfield broke ground on a bigger place for dogs and cats in transition last week.
City leaders dug in for the new Mansfield Animal Care & Control facility at 620 S. Wisteria St., next to the Chris W. Burkett Service Center.
The new $22.9 million facility will be 25,000 square feet and hold up to 130 dogs and 135 cats, according to the city. The building is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026.
The current animal shelter at 407 Industrial Boulevard is 10,000 square feet and can hold about 50 dogs and 50 cats.
The city council also approved $15.4 million for an expansion of the Chris W. Burkett Service Center and site work for the projects.
Funds for the projects will come from the Utility Fund, Drainage Fund and Building Construction Fund.
