Just like the rest of the city, the Mansfield YMCA is growing fast. Only two years after opening, the local YMCA has already expanded.
“We based it on need,” said Eric Tucker, president and CEO of the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA.
Since opening in November 2022 at 78 Regency Parkway, membership has grown to 2,500 with several hundred using the facility daily. Since opening, the YMCA has shared the 35,000-square-foot facility with the Mansfield Mission Center, with each occupying half. As its needs grew, the YMCA purchased another quarter of the building, with the YMCA now spread out over 26,000 square feet, Tucker explained.
The $2 million expansion and renovation includes all new weights and strength training machines, three individual-stall showers, an indoor walking track, a sauna, a hydromassage suite, massage chair suite and patio with fire pit.
“We are specializing in Mansfield,” Tucker said. “This facility is going to be a little more upscale. The amenities we are offering are more spa-like.”
Since opening two years ago, the Mansfield facility has broadened its services from fitness to wellness to the arts. In addition to weight training, cycling, yoga, senior fit, pilates, zumba and other fitness classes, the Mansfield YMCA also offers robotics, STEM classes, an e-sports studio, music lessons, divorce care, a podcast studio, ESL, bereavement therapy, child watch and summer camps.
“If we don’t do something, we try to partner with someone that does, like Mansfield Mission Center or Texas Health,” Tucker said. “We offer more than anyone.”
The only things the expanded YMCA didn’t add was a swimming pool or gymnasium, but that may not be far off, Tucker said. He envisions the YMCA expanding again in the new two to three years, possibly spreading further across the 7 1/2-acre site on Regency Parkway. Until then, YMCA members have access to 26,000 YMCAs across the United States and more than 30 in Dallas-Fort Worth, including the South Cooper location, which has a pool and a gym.
“When there is enough demand, we will add a pool and a gym,” Tucker said, adding that the expansion could cost $10 million to $12 million.
All services, except personal training, are included in the YMCA membership fee, Tucker said. People can choose to pay monthly or annually. Membership is based on family size and age with seniors and young adults getting a break.
Costs range from $19 a month for teens/young adults to $89 for a family per month. Families that sign up for a year pay $69 per month. Seniors (62-plus) pay $39 a month, or $26 per month for an annual agreement.
“There’s so much potential for Mansfield,” Tucker said. “Mansfield is getting the best fitness facility.”
Construction on the expansion began in June and the YMCA plans a ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. Oct. 24 with the public welcome to come check out the new digs.
