Timberview moved a step closer to a playoff berth with a 55-10 victory over Grapevine on Friday night at Vernon Newsom Stadium.

The Wolves (5-4, 4-3 District 3-5A DII) opened both halves with long touchdowns on their first play. Timberview received the opening kickoff in the first half with a 23-yard return by Davin Hill to Grapevine’s 40-yard line. Quarterback Anthony DeSanto needed only one play, a pass to Tyler Madison, to cover the 40 yards for a 7-0 lead over the Mustangs (0-8, 0-6).

On Timberview’s next drive, Grapevine linebacker Tatum Evans recovered a Wolves’ fumble deep in Mustangs territory to thwart a potential scoring drive. Grapevine drove for nearly six minutes before Cade Moreland kicked a 42-yard field goal to make the score 7-3.

That was as close as Grapevine would get as the Wolves’ offense efficiently navigated the field, and Timberview’s defense stifled Mustangs drives.

The Wolves notched the next six scores, all touchdowns, with four covering more than 25 yards. DeSanto again hit Madison, this time for 15 yards and a 14-3 lead in the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Jaylon Woods scored on a 75-yard run for a 20-3 lead and backfield mate Taylor Hanson carried 39 yards for a score and 27-3 lead with 5 ½ minutes left in the first half.

The Wolves defense forced a Grapevine punt, and drove to the Mustangs’ 26-yard line, where DeSanto passed to Chance Collins for 26 yards, bolstering the halftime lead to 34-3.

The second half was more of the same. Timberview recovered its short kick at Grapevine’s 47 -yard line, and DeSanto’s TD pass to Madison made the score 41-3 with only 14 seconds gone in the half.

Malachi Harris tacked on a pair of second half scoring runs – of 11 and one yards – wrapped around a 40-yard TD pass from Grapevine quarterback Jailen Holmes to Ian Hatton for the final score of 55-10.

In other Mansfield ISD action Friday, Lake Ridge (1-7, 0-4 3-6A) lost to Weatherford, 34-28; Legacy (2-7, 2-3 3-6A) fell to Crowley, 35-6; and Summit (4-4, 4-1 3-5A DII) was defeated by Colleyville Heritage, 36-26. Mansfield was idle.
