Legacy wrapped up its regular season with a 38-14 victory over Lake Ridge and clinched a playoff spot on Friday night at Vernon Newsom Stadium.

The Broncos (3-7, 3-3 District 3-6A) jumped out to a quick lead after Jeffrey Brown recovered a fumble by Lake Ridge (1-8, 0-5) on the first play from scrimmage. J-Uan Harrison Jr. went 23 yards for a touchdown on the next play, putting Legacy up 7-0 with less than half a minute gone in the game.

Lake Ridge answered later in the first quarter with a 13-play drive that covered 89 yards. Quarterback Deshawn Edwards threw seven passes on the drive, connecting with Mikah Blow with a 35-yard TD pass to tie the game at 7-7 with just over 4 minutes left in the first quarter.

Legacy took its next possession for a score, with quarterback Nathan Wilson breaking out of the pocket and scrambling 11 yards for a touchdown to regain the lead for Legacy, 14-7, with only 4 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Broncos started their next drive near midfield after a 15-yard punt return by Jackson Carr set up Legacy at their own 41-yard line. A Wilson pass to Carr down the middle of the field for 41 yards set up Wilson’s TD throw to Blaine Rusch, who grabbed the ball at the side of the end zone and kept his feet inbounds for the 21-7 lead with 7 ½ minutes to play before halftime.

The Broncos added 10 points in the fourth quarter with a Wilson pass to D’Andre Thomas for 27 yards and a 29-yard field goal by Jermiah Kieffer for a 31-7 lead.

Lake Ridge’s Noel Butler returned the following kickoff 93 yards, cutting across the field to get ahead of the Broncos and electrifying the homecoming crowd with a touchdown to make the score 31-14 with 2:18 left in the third.

Legacy tacked on a four-yard touchdown run by Jaden Manning with 2:18 left in the game to make the final score 38-14.

In other Mansfield games, Summit (5-4, 5-2 3-5A DII) defeated Everman, 21-0, on Thursday; Mansfield (7-2, 3-2 3-6A) lost to North Crowley, 59-11; and Timberview (6-4, 5-3 3-5A DII) beat The Colony, 23-15.

The regular season wraps up next week, with Summit meeting Arlington Seguin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wilemon Field; Lake Ridge at Fort Worth Boswell at 7 p.m. Friday; and Mansfield facing Weatherford at 7 p.m. Friday at Newsom Stadium. Legacy and Timberview are idle.

Playoff spots are undetermined in both districts containing Mansfield schools. In 6-3A, Legacy, North Crowley and Crowley have clinched berths, while circumstances for Mansfield and Weatherford hinge on the Mansfield-Weatherford matchup.

The same scenario is reflected in 3-5A DII. Argyle and Colleyville Heritage have earned postseason spots, while the status for Summit, Timberview and Arlington Seguin rests on Thursday’s outcome between Summit and Seguin.
