Ian Sedah scored 13 points as the No. 2-ranked Summit Jaguars beat the Burleson Elks 62-34 Tuesday at Summit High School to remain undefeated in District 8-5A.
Summit (4-0 in district, 17-6 overall) jumped out to an 18-5 lead in the first quarter—behind 10 points from the senior forward Sedah—and led Burleson (2-2, 17-9) the entire game.
In addition to scoring a game-high 13 points, Sedah grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots.
Burleson senior forward B.J. Evans tied Sedah with 13 points to lead Burleson. Evans also finished with four rebounds, two assists and a block.
Evans got Burleson on the board with a three-pointer to cut Summit’s lead to 6-3 in the first quarter and scored 10 of Burleson’s first 12 points.
Also scoring double digits for Summit with 11 points each was sophomore guard Mason Williams and senior forward Braylon Turner-Somerville, who each made a game-high three three-pointers.
Summit junior forward Michael Gibbs added eight points, three rebounds and a steal.
Summit junior guard Caleb Richard grabbed a game-high seven rebounds and added seven points, two assists and a steal.
Summit junior guard Theo Brannan dished a game-high five assists and had two steals.
Burleson junior forward Baron Harrison led the Elks with five steals and led Burleson with five rebounds and five assists.
Summit head coach Emund Prichett said he thought Summit played hard but didn’t execute well, which he said he thought was because Burleson played hard and had a good gameplan.
“However you can get [wins], you’ll take them,” Prichett said. “As long as you can get a ‘W’ in the win column, we’re happy about that.”
Burleson head coach Anthony Dees also said he thought Burleson played hard and credited Summit for being a good team. “They’re a top team in the state for a reason,” Dees said of Summit.
Dees said he thought Burleson got better throughout the game and improved as a team despite the loss.
“As the game went on, you see our confidence kind of grow and get better,” Dees said.
“You get better when you go out there and you just fight,” Dees said. “You learn that the things you’re doing can help and the things that you’re doing can work, but you’ve just got to keep fighting.”
The scoring margin between Summit and Burleson decreased every quarter with Summit outscoring Burleson 18-5 in the first, 12-5 in the second, 17-11 in the third and 15-13 in the fourth.
Summit closed the game on a 7-0 run after being outscored 13-8 by Burleson up to that point in the fourth quarter.

“We can’t really worry about anybody else,” Prichett said of facing Summit’s fellow undefeated and Top-25 team and crosstown rival. “We’ve just got to worry about us getting better.”
