Four more candidates filed to run for the Mansfield ISD school board this week.
Filing for the May 3 elections for the school board and Mansfield City Council runs until Feb. 14.
On the Mansfield ISD school board, Places 3, 4 and 5 will be on the ballot.
School board secretary Craig Tipping has filed to run again for Place 3, as has Jason Thomas.
Board president Keziah Valdes Farrar (Place 4) has filed to run for another three-year term, and this week Ana-Alicia Horn, a strategic development director, threw her hat into the ring for Place 4.
This week Place 5, currently held by Bianca Benavides Anderson, drew three candidates: Anderson, who is in sales and marketing; Dustin McDonald, a flight dispatcher; and Jesse Cannon II, who is in education.
Tipping, Farrar and Anderson were all elected in 2022.
The race for mayor has drawn two candidates, current Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans, a pastor who was elected to Place 1 in December 2020 and re-elected without opposition in 2022, and current City Council member Julie Short, a Realtor who was originally elected to the Place 5 on the council in 2018 and most recently re-elected in 2024.
Short has two more years on her current term of office at Place 5. The council will have to call a special election to fill the final two years of her term at Place 5. The special election is on the Jan. 27 City Council agenda.
For Place 2, current council member Tamera Bounds, who works as a physical therapy/rehabilitation director and was elected to Place 2 in 2020 and re-elected in 2022, has filed. Also filing for the seat is Lori Williams, who works for the Mansfield Chamber of Commerce.
Candidates for the Mansfield ISD school board can pick up a packet at the school administration building, 605 E. Broad St. School board candidates must be at least 18 years old, have been a resident of the district for 12 months before filing and be a registered voter in the district.
Candidates for the Mansfield City Council can obtain a packet at City Hall, 1200 E. Broad St., or by contacting the City Secretary at 817-276-4203. Council candidates must be a city resident for at least 12 months before the election and be a qualified Texas voter.
