With eight golf courses within a 10-mile radius of Mansfield, it makes sense that the community is a little golf crazy. But what do golfers do on cold and gloomy days?

That’s where The Green Jacket comes in, the city’s sports and golf bar, which opened June 1, 2024. Golfers are starting to find the indoor option for their favorite sport, said Germany Williams, manager and co-owner of The Green Jacket.

“I don’t golf,” Williams admitted. “My daddy is a golfer. I wanted to open a golf-themed bar. I didn’t want a regular bar.”

The 7,000-square-foot sports bar features a massive full bar, restaurant kitchen, putting green and eight Trackman Golf Simulators, giant screens that allow golfers to tee off on courses around the world. Golfers can bring in their own clubs or rent some from The Green Jacket.

Scott Kreskai studies the course.

“There’s no bad weather in here,” said Scott Kreskai, the first person to join The Green Jacket’s membership roster. “I play four to five times a week, a different course every time. I play courses in Texas, across the United States, Scotland, the Middle East and throughout Europe.

“This has made me a better golfer,” Kreskai said. “You can play 18 holes in an hour.”

Kreskai lined up and drove his ball into a thick screen as his friends relaxed on a heavy couch, waiting their turn.

The Green Jacket also has two private bays and a training bay where golfers can get lessons from the sports bar’s two golf pros.

A putting green is laid out in the center of The Green Jacket sports bar.

“The technology is 99.9 percent accurate so it’s like you’re really training outside,” Williams said. “In winter and when it’s too hot outside, the golfers are in here.”

The simulators also have other games that people can play, plus two televisions per bay. There’s live music on Thursday and Friday nights, plus a disc jockey Thursdays-Saturdays.

The restaurant features bar food standards, but specializes in fried catfish, short ribs and Philly cheesesteak eggrolls.

People can rent a bay for $70 per hour, or buy different levels of golf memberships that range from $99 to $500 per month.

“We don’t look like a regular golf simulator place,” Williams said. “It’s a nice place. I want people to come work on their games. It’s a place ladies can drop off their husbands, like a husband day care.”
