In 1890, members of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield constructed this building at the northeast corner of East Broad and Sycamore streets. The biggest effort came from hauling the church bell into the belfry. The church did not have baptismal facilities so baptisms were done in Jake Back's pasture. The population of Mansfield was 418 and the church seated 250.
