Mansfield could soon have a liquor store.
The Mansfield City Council called for a special election for Nov. 5 to allow residents to decide whether alcoholic beverages can be sold for off-premises consumption within city limits.
In Mansfield, the sale of packaged liquor is prohibited.
Packaged beer and wine may be sold between noon and midnight on Sunday, between 7 a.m. and midnight, Monday through Friday, and between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Saturday.
The council approved the special election 7-0 in its Aug. 12 meeting after verifying the 9,122 registered voters had signed a petition to put the sales to a vote. Petition organizers needed 9,109 votes to get the measure on the Nov. 5 election.
