City officials and developers broke ground on the new Mansfield Sports and Entertainment District on Monday, a public/private partnership ready to liven up the city’s southeast corridor.
Standing in front of a field full of sunflowers behind the former Big League Dreams sports park on Heritage Parkway, the city council and representatives from FC Dallas and REV Entertainment broke ground on Staybolt Street.
The 100-acre development will include a 7,000-seat multi-sport stadium managed by FC Dallas, a professional soccer club, and REV Entertainment. The project will also include High5 Entertainment venue, a three-story space with bowling alleys, arcade games and a roof-top concert venue.
State Rep. and former Mansfield Mayor David Cook was on hand to help break ground on the new project.
“We have been waiting a long time for this, stashing away hotel/motel taxes,” he said. “There’s going to be a lot of money brought into this area because of this project.”
Cook also said the new development will include a hotel conference center.
The project is a public/private partnership with REV Entertainment, FC Dallas, High5 Entertainment and the Mansfield Economic Development Corp.
The City of Mansfield will build and own the stadium for $86 million, according to city officials. Voters approved expanding sales tax use for a stadium in 2023. REV and FC Dallas will then manage the day-to-day operations and programming for the stadium.
High5 will be a private development in Staybolt Street.
Staybolt Street pays tribute to the bolts that held the boiler together in the Man and Feild Mill, where the city originated in downtown Mansfield.
The stadium is expected to open in spring 2026, according to the city.
