FC Dallas (1-0-0, 3 points) defeated Liga MX side Querétaro FC (0-1-0, 0 points) 2-0 at Texas Health Mansfield Stadium on Wednesday to open its 2026 Leagues Cup campaign. Santi Moreno and Joaquín Valiente were on the scoresheet for Dallas.
Forward Santi Moreno scored the first goal of FC Dallas’ 2026 Leagues Cup campaign in the 47th minute. Moreno has scored two goals in eight career Leagues Cup matches. The former Colombia international joined FC Dallas in March 2026 and has made 14 regular-season appearances for the club.
Attacking midfielder Joaquín Valiente scored his first career goal for FC Dallas to extend the lead in the 81st minute of the match. Valiente leads the club in assists (5) and key passes (21) in regular season play.
Goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois made nine saves and recorded his first Leagues Cup shutout. Sirois has posted back-to-back shutouts while making 18 saves over the past two matches.
Christian Cappis, Patrickson Delgado, Clay Holstad, Herman Johansson, Kaick, Nolan Norris, Ramiro, Osaze Urhoghide, Joaquín Valiente all made their Leagues Cup debuts.
Midfielder Clay Holstad made his first FC Dallas start playing 45 minutes. Holstad made his MLS debut on Aug. 1 against LA Galaxy. FC Dallas acquired Holstad on loan from USL Championship side Rhode Island FC through the end of the 2026 season. Head Coach Eric Quill previously worked with Holstad at Texans SC during his youth career in Houston.
FC Dallas heads to the west coast to take on Club Deportivo Guadalajara in the second match of Leagues Cup play on Aug. 8 at PayPal Park in San Jose, California.
