Mansfield ISD football teams ready to tackle 2022 schedule

As the high school football season opens this week, all butone of Mansfield’s teams are on the road, although one team will simply be onthe visitor’s side of a familiar stadium.

Lake Ridge is the lone home team this week, but plays hostto fellow MISD school Summit at 7 p.m. Friday at Vernon Newsom Stadium.

The Mansfield Tigers travel south to meet Waco Midway at 7p.m. Friday; Legacy faces Richland at the Birdville FAAC at 7 p.m. Friday; andTimberview takes on South Grand Prairie at the Gopher Bowl at 7 p.m. Friday.

Last spring’s UIL realignment moved Legacy into Class 6A,where it joins Mansfield, Lake Ridge, Cedar Hill, Dallas Skyline, DeSoto,Duncanville, Cedar Hill and Waxahachie in District 11-6A.  The Tigers are led by Coach Greg George,while Kirk Thor leads the Lake Ridge Eagles and Jeff Hulme heads up the Legacy Broncos;Thor and Hulme formerly were Tigers head coaches

The district road will be tough for the three Mansfield ISD 6Aschools, as 2021 state finalist Duncanville is ranked No. 4 in the state byTexas Football magazine, and Cedar Hill, which went three playoff rounds lastyear, is ranked No. 30. Waxahachie, which lost in the first round last season,is No. 40.

Summit, which has made back-to-back appearances in the Class5A Division I state semifinals under Coach Channon Hall as the largest schoolin District 5-5A DII. The Jaguars are ranked No. 5 in 5A DII by Texas Football.They’re joined in the district by Arlington Seguin, Burleson, Corsicana, Ennis,Everman, Joshua and Midlothian Heritage.

Timberview, coached by James Brown, went three rounds deepin the postseason last year and starts 2022 at No. 9 in Texas Football’s 5A DIrankings. The Wolves’ District 5-5A DI partners are Birdville, CarrolltonNewman Smith, Carrollton Turner, Richland, and four Dallas ISD schools: Adams,Molina, Sunset and W.T. White.
