Another candidate has thrown his hat into the Mansfield City Council race.

Former Mansfield ISD Superintendent Jim Vaszauskas has filed for Place 7 on the council, opposing local businessman Eric Rozak. Place 7 incumbent Larry Broseh, who has served six terms on the council, has not filed for re-election.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Feb. 13 to file for the Mansfield City Council and Mansfield ISD school board elections, set for May 2.

Incumbent Todd Tonore, a local business owner, is currently the only candidate who has filed for the Place 6 position. Tonore was first elected to the council in November 2020, and currently serves as mayor pro tem.

On the Mansfield ISD board, Places 6 and 7 are up for bids.

Incumbent Courtney Lackey Wilson and local business owner Michele Gooch have filed for Place 7.  Wilson has been elected to the seat five times, but had to resign in 2021 due to health reasons. She was re-elected in 2023.

Current school board president Benita Reed has filed to run for her second three-year term at Place 6 and is currently unopposed. Reed is a college English professor.

Mansfield City Council and Mansfield ISD school board members are elected to three-year terms.

Candidates for the Mansfield ISD school board can pick up a packet at the school administration building, 605 E. Broad St. School board candidates must be at least 18 years old, have been a resident of the district for 12 months before filing and be a registered voter in the district.
